We tested over 30 magazine pouches and selected the top 11 for concealed carry. Our top picks are the GRITR Gear Pistol Mag Carrier and the Stealth Gear Ultralight Mag Carrier.
For this review, we focused on concealed carry. There are many magazine pouches out there. However, if you’re looking for one for concealed carry, you’re going to need something different than if you were buying one for the range.

Our team has over 25 years of experience using magazine pouches for concealed carry, the military, and pistol competitions. We have accumulated a bunch of them and have been testing them for years.

Best Pistol Magazine Pouches for Concealed Carry
To make this review easy to follow, I have split it up between single and double mag pouches. See our guide below to learn when you should consider a double over a single.
Best Single Magazine Pouches
GRITR Gear Pistol Magazine Carrier – Best Overall
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Polymer
- Sizes: (3) 9mm/.40/.45 Single Stack, 9mm/.40 Double Stack, .45 Double Stack
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $22.99
The new GRITR Gear Mag Carrier has become one of our favorites.
They have three mag carrier sizes: a single stack, a small double stack for 9mm/.40 caliber, and a large double stack for .45 caliber.

We found the small double stack carrier worked with all of our typical concealed carry guns like the Glock 43X, Sig P365, Springfield Hellcat, Glock 19, and Walther PDP.
Most mag carriers have trouble working properly with both the smaller Glock 43 and the larger Glock 19 magazines. Not this one. The side retention system allowed me to adjust it to work with both.

Inside of the carrier is a spring loaded paddle that creates tension against an inserted magazine to keep it secure. This paddle can be adjusted in and out with an adjustment screw on the side of the carrier. This is what makes it so versatile and easy to adjust for a wide range of magazine sizes.
Even with the adjustment mechanism the carrier is extremely lightweight. The one I tested only weighs 2.2 ounces. When I put it on my belt I can’t tell it is there.

This mag carrier can be worn IWB or OWB. I found IWB can be a little tricky depending on the pants I was wearing. Thicker pants can be too thick for the clip to fit over. But, OWB worked great.
Speaking of the belt clip, it is one of my favorites and what makes it stand out to me.
Most belt clips are a pain to get off of my belt. I really like how this clip has an extended tab at the bottom that I can easily pull outwards with my finger to get the clip off of my belt. It is a simple solution that puts it ahead of most other mag carriers.

I can also adjust the angle of the belt clip up to about 20 degrees. This allows me to adjust the cant angle of the mag carrier to make reloads quicker. I prefer a slight forward cant.
The clip sits flush against the carrier, so concealing it under a shirt is easy.

Alien Gear Photon Magazine Carrier – Best OWB
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Polymer
- Sizes: 9mm/.40 Single or Double Stack
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $24.88
The Alien Gear Photon Mag Carrier is one of my favorite OWB magazine pouches.
It can be worn IWB or OWB and also comes with a sidecar attachment to connect it to a Photon Holster for appendix carry.
The retention of the carrier is adjustable. I like how it has four screws around the carrier so I can set the retention just how I like.

I also like the belt clip. I have found some clips are hard to take on and off, especially when carrying them in the OWB position. This clip slides easily over my belt, and I can pull it at the bottom to remove it.
I can also adjust the angle of the belt clip, which you can’t usually do outside of competition mag carriers. The belt clip is wide, so it stays in place on my belt. It even comes with a spare belt clip and spare screws.

This low-profile mag carrier conceals easily under my shirt when I wear it OWB. I can draw my magazine quickly in this position, and it is my preferred way to use it.
When I wear it IWB, it pushes my mag against my body, making it harder to draw properly, so I don’t really prefer using it IWB.

Craft Holsters Single Magazine Pouch – Best Leather Mag Pouch
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Leather
- Sizes: Custom-made for hundreds of gun models
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $45
The Craft Holsters Single Magazine Pouch is a leather mag pouch that works surprisingly well.
I have not paid much attention to leather magazine pouches in the past, mostly because they are usually bulky and hard to conceal.
That changed when I tried this one. It is surprisingly compact, one of the most compact mag pouches I have ever used.

The Italian leather is top-notch and looks great. The metal spring steel clip is held onto the pouch with a reinforced layer of leather and riveted as well.
While the magazine retention is not adjustable, the pouch is custom-made for my magazine. I can say they fit perfectly, and I don’t need to adjust anything.

I prefer to wear it OWB even with just a T-shirt. It is low profile, so it is easy to conceal. IWB works as well, but it pushes the top of my mag too close to my body and makes it hard to draw properly.

The Craft Holsters Single Magazine Pouch is for anyone who wants a low-profile, leather mag pouch. This one conceals easily.

CYA Supply Magazine Pouch – Best Value
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Kydex
- Sizes: 9mm – .45ACP, Single and Double Stack
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $19.97
The CYA Supply Mag Pouch is one of the most affordable on our list. But it is not “cheap” by any means.
I like that the magazine retention on this mag carrier is adjustable by two screws on the side. I can set it just how I want.

To switch between IWB and OWB, the clip moves from the center of the carrier over to the adjustment screws. I found that this made it very low profile when wearing it IWB. But, since it pushes the top of the magazine against my body, I still prefer to wear it OWB.
If you want maximum concealment, this one in the IWB configuration is a good choice. Just keep in mind drawing the magazine will be harder than OWB.

The only thing I don’t like about this pouch is the clip. It is a little narrow, so it doesn’t stay in place as well as others. Also, it does not have a tab at the bottom. This makes it a little harder to take off the clip.

Hidden Hybrid Slim IWB Magazine Carrier – Best IWB
- Type: IWB
- Material: Leather and Kydex
- Sizes: 9mm – .45, Single and Double Stack
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $49.95
The Hidden Hybrid Slim IWB Mag Carrier is a hybrid design mag pouch similar to their holsters. This makes it one of the most comfortable ways to carry a magazine IWB.

The suede-lined Amish leather backing keeps the mag away from my body. This makes it very comfortable to carry and provides a sturdy surface to index my hand against when drawing the mag. When I carry other mag pouches IWB, the baseplate of the mag tends to press against my body, making it harder to draw.
I like that this mag pouch has a tuckable clip so that I can tuck my shirt around it. This makes it very concealable in dress clothes if I need to.
The magazine retention is adjustable, with five screws that I can adjust. It also includes hardware I can adjust between single and double-stack mags.

The only thing I don’t like about it is smaller 15-round mags like those for a Glock 19 or Walther PDP compact sit a little low in it. This makes it harder to get a good grip on them when drawing.

Crossbreed Accomplice Mag Carrier
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Leather and Polymer
- Sizes: 9mm – .45ACP, Single and Double Stack
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $33.95
The Crossbreed Accomplice Mag Carrier is one of the most flexible mag carriers we have found.
I really like the adjustable retention. Instead of tightening screws that compress the shell, this mag carrier has a side retention device that applies pressure to the side of the mag. This allows me to carry almost any size mag that fits the carrier. I can adjust the set screw to get the retention that I want.

We used this mag carrier three ways. IWB without the leather backer, IWB with the leather backer, and OWB.
Using it IWB without the leather backer has the same issue as other IWB mag carriers. It pushes the top of the magazine into my body and makes it hard to draw quickly. I find I have to re-gripping the magazine after I draw. Plus, it is not exactly the most comfortable this way either.

Using IWB with the leather backer was more comfortable, and drawing the magazine was better. I can get it out quicker, but I must adjust how I am used to gripping the mag. This way works OK if you want maximum concealment with an appendix holster.

The IWB belt clip can be adjusted for both ride height and angle. I can also tuck my shirt in around the clip if I want. This is great when carrying concealed with dress clothes.
To change it to the OWB configuration, I removed and added the IWB clip to the OWB belt clip. I like this feature since there are times when I want to carry a spare mag both ways.

The OWB belt clip is a split loop, so I can put it on and take it off without unbuckling my belt. However, it does not attach to my belt as tight as I prefer. I can draw the mag without pulling it off my belt, which is great, but the angle of the mag carrier doesn’t stay in place. It also slides too easily. I tried it with thicker belts, and while it was better, it was still noticeable.

Falco Leather Single Magazine Pouch
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Leather
- Sizes: Custom-made for hundreds of gun models
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $49.95 – $69.95
The Falco Leather Single Magazine pouch is a single magazine leather pouch that can be used either IWB or OWB.
Two things stand out to me on this mag pouch.

The first is the high-quality leather. I have noticed all of Falco’s Italian leather to be top-notch. They put a finish on it that both protects it and makes it look great.
The second is the adjustable retention. While not an amazing feature in itself, I usually don’t see leather mag pouches with adjustable retention. On one side of the mag pouch, they included an adjustment screw that works just like the ones on Kydex mag pouches.
On the pouch’s front is a belt clip for IWB carry. On the pouch’s back is a belt loop for OWB carry. Both stay in place, so I don’t have to change anything to switch between positions. As you have seen, most of the other IWB/OWB require some sort of changeover.

There are a ton of options available on this pouch, much like the other Falco products. I can get different leather colors, stitching colors, edge colors, embossing, and many other options.
The only thing I don’t like about this holster is it is not super comfortable when worn IWB. The edges of the belt loop stand out somewhat against my body. An undershirt helps some, but I can still feel it after wearing it for a while. I expect the leather to soften over time, though.

1791 Gunleather Snag Mag

- Type: Pocket
- Material: Polymer
- Sizes: Over 50 gun models
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $21.99
The 1791 Gunleather Snag Mag is a unique device that allows me to carry a backup magazine concealed.
While I do not recommend using this as your only mag pouch, it is a great way to carry a third magazine without using a double mag pouch. If your handgun has a low capacity, this is a great option.

My magazine fits down into the snag mag, and when viewed from the back, it looks like a pocketknife with a pocket clip. The clip keeps my magazine at my pocket’s top and back edge. This allows me to use my pocket for other things still and protects my mag from pocket debris or other items.
On the side of the snag mag, a small hook sticks out and catches the inside of my pocket. This feature keeps the snag mag in my pocket when I grab the magazine and pull it.

My only issue with it is that it doesn’t work well with some pants. Jeans seem to be OK, but pants with pockets with more of an angle don’t work as well. The hook does not catch inside my pocket when I draw the mag, so the snag mag comes out with it.
Before heading anywhere with the snag mag, I highly recommend checking to make sure it works with the pants you are wearing!

Stealth Gear Ultralite Mag Carrier
- Type: IWB or OWB
- Material: Polymer
- Sizes: Double Stack, Single Stack, P365, Shield, Hellcat
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $39.95
The Stealth Gear Ultralite Double Mag Carrier is a compact double mag carrier that can be worn IWB or OWB.
Stealth Gear makes unique hybrid-design holsters and is our favorite OWB holster for concealed carry.

Their mag carriers follow suit. However, I like their Ultralite line since they are compact and weigh almost nothing.
The backing is a foam-type rubber, and the front mag shells are made from a polymer.

Magazine retention is adjustable with four screws, so I can set them just how I want.
I like the clips on this pouch, both the OWB and IWB styles. The OWB clips are the same as the ones on their holsters, and I can take them off easily without unbuckling my belt. They are also adjustable, so I can change the ride height and angle if I want.

The IWB clips are also adjustable, and I can tuck my shirt in behind them for maximum concealment when wearing dress clothes.

The backing is flexible, so the pouch conforms to my body. This makes it surprisingly concealable under just a T-shirt, and I am carrying two mags!

The only negative I have found is the backing tends to get irritating when I wear it IWB without an undershirt. Since this pouch conceals so well, I almost never wear it IWB anyway.

Craft Leather Double Magazine Pouch
- Type: OWB
- Material: Leather
- Sizes: Double Stack only
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $35.00
The Craft Leather Double Magazine pouch is a low-profile leather pouch that will carry two mags.
I really like how low-profile this mag pouch is. It is the flattest of all the mag pouches I have found, even single ones.

The design of a single piece of leather folded up with Kydex holster-type retention adjustment screws in the middle is ingenious. I often find simple designs the best, and this pouch is a great example.
On the back is a simple belt loop, which helps keep the pouch compact and close to my body. The loop is about two inches wide, so it stays in place and is very stable on my belt. The only negative with the loop is I have to unbuckle my belt to take the pouch off.
My mags fit a little tight initially, but they loosened up after leaving them in the pouch for a few days. I then adjusted the middle retention screws to get it how I wanted.

The only real negative of this holster is it only comes in one size. It will not work for smaller magazines like the P365 or Glock 43 but works great for double-stack mags with 15-round capacity.

The 1791 Gunleather Double Mag Carrier is a full leather double mag pouch.
The leather this mag carrier is made from is no different than all the other 1791 gunleather holsters. It is amazing. It is soft yet sturdy and made from 100% American steer hide. It smells just like a new baseball glove.

The center of the mag pouch has adjustable screws, just like I normally see on Kydex holsters. They allow me to set the magazine retention just like I want.
The belt loops are made into the end of the holster instead of the back. This makes the overall width of the holster a little wide, but at the same time, it helps to keep it close to my body. I tighten my belt, and it pulls it right in. This is great not only for concealment but for comfort as well.

There are three sizes available, two for 1911 style single and double stack mags, and a third for polymer and metal style double stack mags (which is what I have.)
The only negative is my 15-round magazines sit a little deeper than I prefer. 17 round mags or mags with a larger base plate on them work great.

Falco Hybrid Double Magazine Pouch
- Type: OWB or IWB
- Material: Hybrid – Leather and Kydex
- Sizes: Custom-made for hundreds of gun models
- Warranty: Lifetime
- MSRP: $99.95
The Falco Hybrid Double Magazine Pouch is a hybrid design with a leather backing and a Kydex shell.
Usually, I find that Kydex double mag pouches are too wide to be comfortable and concealable. Falco has thought of this and made this pouch curved to hug my body. This keeps it tucked in tight and surprisingly concealable under just a shirt.

The center of the pouch has two retention adjustment screws, and the Kydex is custom molded for the exact magazines I specify. This makes the retention of this pouch better than most others.
The belt loops are a full polymer loop on the back. They are not my favorite since I have to unbuckle my belt to remove it.

The belt clips must be changed to go from OWB to IWB. I like the IWB clips and can tuck my shirt in behind them.
Neither of the clips is adjustable, which was a little disappointing.
Overall, the quality of this mag pouch is top-notch, from the leather to the Kydex. It looks great and feels like it will last forever. However, the price is a little high, even though it is super nice.
Keep in mind this mag pouch goes well with the Falco Compact Hybrid IWB holster that we included as one of the Best IWB holsters.

Reasons for Carrying a Spare Pistol Magazine Pouch
Is carrying a spare magazine for my concealed-carry handgun really that important?
We know from our list of concealed carry responsibilities that drawing our handgun on a threat is only done when we have no other choice. At this point, either our life or someone else’s is in danger. So, we need a handgun that is fully functional.
Handguns are mechanical devices that can malfunction. Magazines and ammo are integral to concealed carry handguns and can fail just the same.
Here are some reasons why carrying at least one extra magazine is necessary for concealed carry.
1. Magazine/Feed Malfunction
Magazines are simple devices with a spring that pushes the ammo cartridges up and into the feeding mechanism of the handgun. If the spring breaks or encounters debris that prevents it from pushing cartridges, my gun will no longer function.
If I have a spare magazine, I can quickly replace the malfunctioning magazine. This gets my handgun back in operation again.
2. Ammo Malfunction
Normally, I do not have any issues with ammunition. But, occasionally, I have had some with misshapen bullets or case issues. At my first state championship match, I had one that jammed up my handgun really hard.
It took me a few seconds to clear it, and since I didn’t know if it was the ammo or the magazine I changed to my spare magazine. I won’t have time to inspect and diagnose in a stressful situation.
So, I no longer assume that all of my ammo will perform perfectly, whether at a match or while carrying concealed.
3. Additional Capacity
While not as likely, if I am faced with multiple attackers, I may need additional ammo while trying to escape. After stopping the initial threat, I want to be able to top off my handgun with a full magazine just in case the attack continues. This is even more important on handguns with a lower capacity.
Pocket vs. Mag Pouch
While throwing an extra mag in a pocket somewhere is tempting, I do not recommend it.
First, trying to fish a magazine out of a pocket after I have drawn my handgun puts me in a vulnerable position. I have already pointed my handgun at a threat, and now I am standing there with one hand in my pocket, and my gun isn’t functional.
Not to mention I do not wear the same pants every day, and they all have different pockets in different places. This makes me slow and inefficient.
Second, pockets tend to be places where lint and debris collect. If I have anything else in my pocket, it could also become stuck in the mag. This will cause my second mag to be no better than my faulty primary.
Keep your backup mag in a dedicated mag pouch that is in the same place, no matter what you are wearing. Practice drawing the mag from that position so you can do it when stressed.
Tips for Choosing the Best Pistol Magazine Pouch
There are some key features that you should consider before purchasing a mag pouch. While it seems to be a simple choice, it could be a life-or-death decision.
Concealment
When I am carrying my handgun concealed, I usually want my spare magazine concealed as well. I look for a low-profile magazine pouch that sits as close to my body as possible while still allowing me to get a good grip on the magazine.
IWB vs OWB
When most people think of concealment, they immediately think IWB is the only way. I have found it easy to conceal an OWB mag pouch under just a shirt.

In some cases, when carrying my handgun in the appendix position, I will carry an IWB magazine pouch beside my holster. It just depends on the shirt I am wearing and the magazine size. Most of the time, I carry an OWB mag pouch on my weak side (left) hip.
Some magazine pouches can be configured for both IWB and OWB. Often, I find this is the best choice for most people since they can try them both ways.
Regardless of the way you choose, I find that it is best to stay consistent. Training emergency reloads is an important part of a defensive handgun training program, and carrying two different ways is just more to train and could be confusing in a stressful situation.
Overall, I find that OWB usually works the best since I can get a better grip on the magazine. Having to grab it and reposition my hand to load my gun risks dropping it, I have found. I need bullets in the gun, not on the floor.
Double vs Single Mag Pouch
I feel a single mag pouch is sufficient for magazine capacities over ten. If I carry a capacity lower than this, I like to have a double magazine pouch.
Another option is to have a pocket magazine holder like the Snag Mag above for a third magazine. This way, I can carry a smaller single-mag pouch on my belt and have a third mag available just in case.
Magazine Retention
My magazine pouch must retain the magazine sufficiently. I like to have them a little on the tight side so in case I am in a struggle, they do not fall out easily. Magazine pouches that have adjustable retention are the best.
Substantial Attachment Clip
The magazine pouch should attach to my belt, so a proper clip is necessary. The clip should hook under my belt so that I do not pull the pouch off when drawing the magazine.
The clip should also hold the magazine pouch on my belt so that it does not move along my belt from front to back. I want it in the same place at all times so that when the time comes, my training kicks in, and I can draw the magazine without searching for it.
Allows Full Grip of the Magazine
The magazine pouch should not entirely cover the magazine. I need to be able to grip the magazine and load it into my handgun in one fluid motion.

I do not want to pull and regrip the magazine as it introduces the chances of dropping it in the transition. It is also much slower and harder to do when moving or awkwardly.

Material
In general, I stay with two materials, Kydex and leather.
Kydex is more durable and is not susceptible to sweat and water like leather is. However, leather is more comfortable. Plus, the leather looks good.
Hybrid designs like those on our list are great for IWB carry since they have a piece of leather between my body and the holster. I find that these are the most comfortable IWB magazine pouches.
Price
I find the sweet spot for magazine pouches between $25 and $50. Less than this, and you are probably getting an inferior product made in a low-cost country, more than this, and you are probably wasting money unless you are looking for something that looks really nice.
