Outdoor Subscription Box
I’ll admit it. I used to think subscription boxes were a scam. You know, the kind where you get one cool item and a box full of stickers, but also regret.
Then I found a few that actually deliver solid gear at a better value than buying each item separately.
My favorites are Battlbox, TacPack, and The Nomadik.

You can read more about them in my Battlbox review, TacPack review, and in my review on The Nomadik.
As I explained in my Battlbox review, Battlbox is the “preparedness” box. Think fire starters, tools, and survival gear that’s actually worth keeping. They offer different subscription levels depending on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go.
Plus, you can save 40% off Battlbox through December 1st with code “NEW40”!
TacPack is for the shooting enthusiast. Each month they send out unique firearm and tactical related gear. I found that it really is a great value, plus they send out some fun items as well.
The Nomadik box is more “fun outdoorsman” than “doomsday prepper.” It’s quarterly instead of monthly, and I’ve found it’s full of quality gear: camping tools, portable lights, hydration gear, you name it.
Nomadik regularly has deals during the year, too.
All are easy to cancel anytime, though you probably won’t want to once you get your first box.
Ice Mule Backpack Cooler
Regular coolers are great until you realize you’ve just volunteered to carry a 40-pound plastic box over uneven ground while your buddy “scouts ahead.”
That’s where the Ice Mule Cooler Backpacks comes in. It’s essentially a dry bag that has been upgraded to make it lightweight, insulated, and actually comfortable to carry. The design keeps your hands free while the drinks stay cold.
I’ve hauled mine on camping trips, fishing runs, and even a backyard barbecue where it doubled as a seat. When it’s empty, it rolls up and stashes away like it was never there, no bulky plastic coffin to wrestle with in the garage
And unlike certain overpriced brands that make you question your life choices at checkout, the Ice Mule hits the sweet spot between affordable and legit performance.
Solar and Emergency Phone Charger

If there’s one universal truth about being outdoors, it’s that your phone battery will die right when you actually need it, usually miles from an outlet and right after you tell someone, “Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of charge.”
That’s why I don’t leave home without two things: the Survival Frog QuadraPro Solar Charger and the Battarix SOS Charge Card.
The QuadraPro is the big dog. It’s got built-in solar panels that fold up neatly, so you can hang it off your pack or truck dash to soak up some sun while you’re busy doing other things. It even has an inductive charger built in, meaning you can just drop your phone on it without digging for a cable (a small but beautiful victory).
Then there’s the Battarix SOS Charge Card, which is exactly what it sounds like: a credit-card-sized battery that comes pre-charged and holds power for years. Toss one in your glove box, hunting pack, or emergency kit, and forget about it until the day you’re thanking yourself for having it.
Together, they cover both ends of the spectrum: one for regular use, one for “oh no” moments.
GTM Concealed Carry Purse
Finding a purse that actually works for concealed carry is harder than it sounds. Most “tactical purses” either look like you raided your husband’s range bag or scream “there’s a gun in here.” Neither is ideal.
That’s why we like GTM purses. They actually look like normal purses (nice ones, even) but still have a smart, secure compartment for your handgun.
Kristin’s favorite is the GTM Clutch, which manages to be stylish, discreet, and functional all at once. The concealed compartment is easy to access but doesn’t get in the way when you’re just, you know, being a regular human carrying a purse. You can read more about them in our Concealed Carry Gear for Women guide.
They offer a bunch of designs, from casual to classy, so there’s something for every taste. And unlike a lot of “concealed carry” gear, these don’t cost more than your gun.
If you’ve got a woman in your life who carries, this is a thoughtful, practical gift that shows you get it.
Thermowave Base Layer Clothing
Most people don’t give their base layers much thought. They’ll drop a fortune on boots or jackets but still wear the same bargain-bin thermals they’ve had since college. Don’t be that person.
Thermowave makes some of the best base layers I’ve ever used: warm, comfortable, and made from Merino wool, which is basically nature’s version of performance fabric. It wicks moisture, keeps you warm even when wet, and somehow doesn’t smell like you’ve been living in your truck for three days.
I’ve worn Thermowave gear on cold range days, winter hikes, and even around the house when I refuse to turn up the heat. The fit is snug without being restrictive, and it actually holds up after a few wash cycles, which is more than I can say for the cheap stuff.
Leatherman Multitools
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you can never have too many multitools. They’re like flashlights: one in the truck, one in the toolbox, one in the bag, one that mysteriously disappears right when you need it most.
The Leatherman Wave+ is my personal favorite. It’s the gold standard of multitools: tough, compact, and just about perfect for everyday carry or emergency use. The pliers feel solid, the blades actually hold an edge, and the screwdriver bits don’t strip the first time you use them.
I’ve used mine for everything from fixing optics at the range to tightening loose screws on my kid’s bike. It’s one of those tools that always earns its keep, and honestly, I’d be lost without it.
Even if the person you’re shopping for already has a multitool, they’ll still want another one. (Ask me how I know.)
You can read more about it in our Best Survival Multitool guide, but here’s the short version: the Wave+ is the one I actually carry.
Everyday Carry Flashlight

Flashlights are like multitools; you never really have enough. I’ve got one in my truck, one in my pocket, one in the nightstand, and probably one rolling around under a car seat somewhere.
Two of my favorites are the ASP Tungsten and the Streamlight Pro-Tac. Both are small enough to carry every day, bright enough to light up a dark trail, and reliable enough to trust when it’s 2 a.m. and you’re hearing “that noise” outside.
The ASP Tungsten is a sleek little powerhouse, designed for law enforcement, but perfect for anyone who wants serious performance in a pocket-sized package. It’s lightweight and tough as nails.
The Streamlight Pro-Tac is more of an all-around workhorse. It’s slightly larger but makes up for it with better runtime and that classic Streamlight dependability. This is the one I reach for when I’m working in the garage or need a solid utility light.
Both hit that sweet spot of brightness without being so intense that you blind yourself bouncing light off a white wall (ask me how I learned that one).
If you’re looking for more options, check out our Best Tactical EDC Flashlight guide, but honestly, these two are the ones I keep going back to.
Real Avid Torque Driver Kit

If you’ve ever mounted a scope and thought, “tight enough looks about right,” this one’s for you.
The Real Avid Torque Driver Kit takes the guesswork out of gunsmithing (or, let’s be honest, every other small project you’ll inevitably tackle). It’s designed for firearms, but I’ve used mine for everything from red dot adjustments to tightening a loose cabinet hinge.
The kit includes a torque driver that lets you dial in the exact tension, plus a second driver with a built-in light, a simple but brilliant addition when you’re working in dim spaces or late-night garage sessions. The included bits cover pretty much every screw you’ll ever encounter, and unlike the cheap ones that twist like licorice, these actually hold up.
The case keeps everything organized and ready to hang on a pegboard, which means you’ll actually be able to find it when you need it (a rare luxury in my shop).
If you’re shopping for a gun owner, tinkerer, or anyone who takes “precision” way too seriously, this is an easy win.
Off The Grid Surplus Trailblazer Pants
These are our favorite concealed carry pants that we just reviewed.
Most “tactical” pants look like they’re trying way too hard. The new trailblazer pants don’t scream operator, but they still pack all the function you’d expect from serious gear.
Built with a stretch canvas that actually moves with you, these pants can handle everything from bushwhacking to crawling under a truck. They’ve got reinforced knees, strategic pocket placement, and enough room for an EDC setup without feeling like you’re hauling bricks.
The fit hits that rare middle ground between “rugged” and “normal human,” so you can wear them to a range day, a hike, or even the hardware store without getting side-eye. And if you’ve ever shredded a pair of cheap work pants mid-project, you’ll appreciate that these last. I’ve beaten mine up for two years and they still look like they’re waiting for the next job.
Off The Grid nailed what most brands miss: comfort without compromise. These are the pants you put on in the morning and forget about until they’re covered in sawdust, dirt, or adventure.

National Body Armor Soft Vest
Body armor isn’t usually the easiest gift to wrap or wear. Most vests are bulky and scream “look at me, I might get shot today.”
The National Body Armor Soft Vest changes that. It’s concealable under everyday clothing, lightweight, and comfortable enough that your loved one can wear it without anyone noticing. Yet it still stops most handgun rounds, which is the whole point.
I’ve recommended this vest to people in semi-hazardous jobs or anyone who just wants peace of mind without looking like they’re prepping for an action movie. It’s practical, discreet, and actually wearable, which is rare in the world of personal armor.
